McCarthy was asked to produce specifications for major works at my building. I belve Paul McCarthy did so without an inspection (they did not have the keys to the building and no one recalls letting him in) and included a large number of works that at my advice, were not necessary. I am not an expert, but only a 5 months earlier another Chartered Surveyor had inspected the building and written a detailed conditions report which was presented and accepted by a Judge and which was tens of thousands of pounds cheaper than McCarthy's. Our building manager stated that this surveyor was not available to draft the specifications and instructed McCarthy Partnership instead. Unfortunately I later found that on the FTT Decisions website, there are several service charge disputes court cases where McCarthy is mentioned in conjunction with our building manager who naturally earns a percentage on the work carried out.
