Very little is ever said about the amazing people that once lived here. The museum sits on the site of Chief Ouray's house. Visiting here makes the visit to this area much richer.

Beautiful museum honoring the Indigenous people of this area including Chipeta & Ouray. Wonderful outdoor areas including a fine spring (follow it across the road and into the wetlands).
Was a great experience. Really learned a lot and loved touring the facility. Fun walking in the teepees and thinking what a winter would have been in that hundred years ago.
A gem of a museum. This museum was recommended by a local and it did not disappoint. Excellent text and a film described the history of the Ute. I particularly was interested to see an example of a resin coated basket. They have some beautiful clothing on display. There is also an excellent gift store
I liked this very much. Very informative and interesting.
