Overall a very nice climbing wall with a great selection of lead climbing routes. The bouldering area is a bit small but offers a lot of challenging routes which is nice to see. The reason for 3 stars is that whilst belaying the staff would intercept and distract the person belaying since they only allow the PBUS belaying technique. I've found it extremely unsafe that they do it midclimb and sometimes start tailing the rope. Causing sudden distraction is significantly more unsafe than using the shuffle technique, which is a widely used method for belaying and is considered safe by many climbers and organisations because you never let go of the brake-side of the rope. In addition, it would seem like they focus more on just using PBUS and not if you are actually doing it properly, as on the day there was several people who despite using PBUS weren't belaying safely. Next time, I will definitely be using PBUS at this wall since it's their requirement. But I would appreciate if the person belaying me was instructed to bring me down and then would be educated on their belaying technique once it is safe to do so.

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. It’s great for kids and adults, from the novice to expert.

Went for a family introduction session, scheduled to last 90 minutes. Throughout that time, we climbed a beginner's wall, a tall tilded wall, an auto-reel assisted vertical wall and did some boldering. Going in one would think what we would be doing for 90 minutes but, after the first 3, looking at the watch revealed time flying by, with 20 minutes left on the session. After its conclusion, we were given the green light to continue training on the boldering section. That on its own made for a great experience. To make it better, the coach was a really nice person, providing clear instructions both at the adults as well as children's level. For anyone minimally curious, I can only recommend booking a session.

Reading is one of the best walls in the area and totally worth the 2 1/2 hour drive from Dorset. The quality and selection of routes are good, especially those with big volumes which make it more interesting than most walls. However, on several occasion during our last visit the same member of staff continuously berated our group about belaying safety and appropriate use of climbing knots, keeping in mind that we are a group of highly experienced climbers with numerous climbing and high ropes/rope work qualifications and that we are registered with the wall for a number of years now. While it is obviously important that members of staff ensure safety among climbers it seems curious that the member of staff focuses on experienced groups while ignoring dangerous behaviour (climbing above one another, wrong use of ATC devices, etc.) on wide display during our visit. It doesn’t need to be said that this obviously left us with a bitter aftertaste after an otherwise good day of climbing.

Great climbing centre which is easily accessible by car. Good variation of routes to keep you entertained all day. Will definitely be coming back
