FYI: FREE AIR & WATER STATION RETURNED TO LINGLEY EXTRA MILE CHEVRON IN TORRANCE. The air and water service has long been a potential source of controversy, probably since service stations first opened just over a century ago. Many gas stations have traditionally provided air and water gratis—aka, free, with the understanding that all traffic that stops at a station is a potential sale of some sort. Heck, even if it is at some future date, the utility and goodwill engendered by a business that is happy to offer such basics is repaid upon purchases by that now-loyal customer who remembers and returns the favor, so to speak. Many station owners would agree that owning a service station implies a certain ethical duty to both locals and travelers alike, and carries a responsible role to be played in the community (of automobile owners, at least). All that said, the hassles of offering free air and water can sometimes place undue burdens on a business that is constantly watching, adjusting and barely surviving on tight profit margins. Vandalized equipment has often been a real concern for these small business owners, as various nefarious individuals have regularly targeted the detached, vulnerable and costly equipment for damage and destruction. Hence, in the past, some stations have been forced to tightly regulate and even charge for what used to be free air and water. After extended setbacks and a time when owner Bob Lingley reluctantly was forced to employ a nominal fee (.50 cents) for limited use of the air hose and water hookup for customers. Recently, however, Lingley’s dedication to the highest levels of community and customer service are once again consistent across the board at his Extra Mile in Torrance, Calif. Full, free access during business hours has been returned to the air and water station located at the north end of the station’s property. We have to assume Lingley and his loyal patronage and local constituency are pleased, to say the least.

If you only have 91 fuel, your sign should reflect that. Don’t wait until I use your atm, come to the cash register with an armful of goods, then tell me you don’t have any regular fuel.

The man at the register is always very polite and happy to see you when you arrive. The bathrooms are kept clean and well maintained very surprising that a gas station has the restrooms so well kept.

They charge an extra 35 cents to any purchase under 5 dollars when using a card.... Even if you use debit...I will happily go to the 7 eleevn from now on instead.
