Ceredigion County Council is a unitary authority created in 1996 as a result of local government re-organisation. It covers an area of 180,500 hectares (696 square miles) and has a population of 78,000. It has responsibility for environmental health, housing, planning, highways, schools, libraries, recreational facilities, social services, local taxation and benefits, tourism and economic development, amongst other items. On the 25th April 2013 the Council resolved to formally adopt the 'Ceredigion Local Development Plan' (LDP). This means that the LDP is now Ceredigion County Council-Home Ceredigion Archives was originally established in 1974 as the third office of the Dyfed Archives Service. It was then known as the Cardiganshire Area Record Off.
