Built on the site of the previous Great Leighs racecourse, Chelmsford City is not only the newest racecourse in Britain, but is also one of only five fully floodlit all-weather tracks in the UK. With the distinctive shape of the bespoke made Champagne-flute shaped lights, the racecourse pioneers sleek design, the newly constructed Grandstand which was also short-listed for an architectural award back in 2016. The course opened for racing on 11th January 2015 with the first public raceday on 1st February in the same year. Since then it has gone from strength to strength, offering a huge variety of raceday and non-raceday events including, but not limited to, live music concerts, family fun days, conferences, wedding exhibitions, food festivals, obstacle races and Arabian race fixtures. This year we are looking forward to another exciting year of quality racing here at Chelmsford City Racecourse and are delighted to confirm that we have secured a minimum of fifty-eight fixtures in 2019. This makes us one of the busiest racecourses of all 60 tracks in Great Britain, and that's not counting the extra dates we can pick up when the racing is cancelled elsewhere due to inclement weather! As we continue to grow our events calendar, we will again be staging some high-profile concerts after racing, as well as our feature days, which include our hugely popular Ladies Day on Thursday 20th June. We remain extremely committed to providing high prize money throughout the year as this helps to attract the best trainers and jockeys on a regular basis, resulting in top class and competitive racing. Our prize money for 2019 will again top £5,000,000 and this makes us one of the biggest-spending racecourses in the country. 2018 was a year of several 'firsts' on the racing front and we are sure more landmarks will be reached in 2019.
