Located in Eureka’s Old Town district and housed in the historic Bank of Eureka building, the Clarke Historical Museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting the history and culture of Humboldt County. This exciting history includes vibrant Native American cultures, gold rush settlements, the “red gold” of lumber, prosperous ranching/farming and livelihoods wrung by the sea. Through period rooms and changing exhibits, visitors can glimpse Victorian elegance, remarkable craftsmanship, and everyday work and home life from Humboldt’s past. The Native American collection is considered among the largest and best in the country with one spacious gallery devoted to the basketry, ceremonial regalia, and stone implements from local tribes. The Clarke Museum takes our role as a cultural and educational hub for the community seriously by providing a safe place where ideas and knowledge are shared, honoring and learning from previous generations, while teaching today’s youths as they become tomorrow’s leaders. At our core, the Clarke is an educational facility dedicated to fostering lifelong learning opportunities for all ages. The museum has a unique role in crossing the boundaries between research, learning, and the public.
