It was originally founded by its namesake, David Stern, in the 1970s and despite its success and prominence in the years that followed, David Stern Bail Bonds never lost sight of its family-oriented roots. After Mr. Stern's death in 2008, Mr. Stern's sons and daughter-in-law took over the family business. In 2015, the Stern family sold the business to renowned Fort Lauderdale bail bondsman, "Big Angel" Alonso, who also owned "Big Angel's Bail Bonds" on South Andrews Avenue. Despite the change in ownership, very little has changed at David Stern Bail Bonds.
