Fingerprints is a record store in Long Beach, CA. Fingerprints opened on a shoe-string and a credit card cash advance. Our goals, when we opened, weren’t exactly lofty; for the first year, we were hoping for an in-store by John Wesley Harding, to receive a record award with the store’s name on it, and we hoped to make it through the first year, because we’d heard that was the toughest for any business. Aside from John Wesley Harding, who recently stopped in to play for us for the fourth time, we should have aimed higher. July 2012 will bring our 20th anniversary. We’re already thinking about the party. 2011 saw us move from our home of 19 years into a historic (and award-winning) new space, located at 420 East 4th St, in the East Village Arts District, near Downtown Long Beach. The new space is more than twice the size of our original space, which allowed us to expand our selection of CDs, LPs, DVDs, and Books, as well as increase the space we can dedicate to live music performances. So far, in our new space, we have hosted in-store events with the Foo Fighters, Brian Wilson, Taking Back Sunday, Brett Dennen, Matt Nathanson, Matt Costa, Dengue Fever, The Kooks, honeyhoney, Strange Boys, Anika, People Under the Stairs, Portugal. the Man, Rival Sons, Joseph Arthur, Trevor Hall, The Horrible Crowes, John Doe, Fool’s Gold, Michael Franti, Release the Sunbird, Crystal Antlers, Nik Freitas, Sarah Jarosz, Bahamas, Infantree, Pigeon John, The Airborne Toxic Event, King Creosote, Korey Dane, The Fling, Tapes ‘n Tapes, The Dears, Eulogies, Alexi Murdoch, G. Love, Men, Jonathan Wilson, and several others that tipped my brain into overload. And, there are amazing things in our future, so stay tuned, because Chapter Two is shaping up nicely.
