Fraunces Tavern Museum’s mission is to preserve and interpret the history of the American Revolutionary era through public education. This mission is fulfilled through the interpretation and preservation of the Museum's collections, landmarked buildings, and varied public programs that serve the community. The Museum has a range of public activities, which include the use of the nine exhibit spaces. The Museum uses these spaces to publicly exhibit many of the Museum’s 7,500-object collection of paintings, prints, decorative arts, and documents, as well as loaned objects. The Education program has been developed to compliment New York State curriculum for grades 4th-7th. School groups attend trained docent lead tours daily. The tours include interactive activities and learning exercise all which utilize the seven different exhibits spaces. In 2010 the Education program served over 4578 students from the tri-state area. Almost 400 of those students were attending from Title I schools, geared toward academic achievement despite high risk environments. Public Programs support the exhibitions and include monthly evening lectures, annual walking tours, an annual book award and guided tours on Saturdays.
