The Friends of The Seattle Public Library is a non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our Library as an essential institution of our society. Established in 1941, our volunteer members advocate for, educate about, and raise funds on behalf of The Seattle Public Library. From distributing books to underprivileged children in the 40s, supporting bookmobiles in the 70s, the popular "Raise a Reader" in the 90s. the Summer Reading Program today to multilingual readings and other programs, the Friends have always been supporting our community. By sponsoring programs, supporting quality facilities and funding for the Library, providing volunteers, and collaborating with other Library and civic groupsâthe Friends have helped Seattle maintain a world class, inclusive library system.
