Hindustan Motors Limited manufactures cars, trucks, diesel engines, bulldozers, cranes, dumpers, compactors, shovels and scrapers. The Company also manufactures a wide range of steel products, axle assemblies, special purpose machine tools, hydraulic pumps and hydraulic valves. Hindustan Motors Limited (HML) pioneered India's automobile manufacturing. HML is the flagship company of the C.K. Birla Group -- it was established in 1942, five years before India's independence. In addition to cars (Ambassador, Lancer), HML makes trucks and multi-utility vehicles (Trekker, Porter, and Pushpak) and the RTV (a versatile minibus-ambulance-pickup model). HML also partners with Mitsubishi Motors to manufacture the Lancer sedan and the Pajero SUV. It sold its line of earthmoving equipment to Caterpillar. The company operates manufacturing facilities in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal.
