The Institute of Earth Sciences Jaume Almera (ICTJA) belongs to the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). It was set up in 1965 and is located at the University Campus of Pedralbes in Barcelona. ICTJA-CSIC research is focused on the study of the shallow and deep geodynamic processes which affect the crust and the mantle. The aim of our research is to improve the responsible management of the geological resources and the prevention of geological and anthropogenic risks: seismicity, volcanism, CO2 storage and climate change. ICTJA-CSIC performs: -Geological and geophysical research. -Exploration and assesment in the exploitation of geological resources. -Numerical and experimental modelling of geological processes and geological, ambiental and climatic hazards. -Multidisciplinary characterisation of geological and cultural heritage materials. -Development of new tools and applications for Earth Sciences. The activity of the ICTJA is undertaken on four research lines: -Earth's Structure and Dynamics. -Environmental changes in the geological record. -Geophysical and geochemical modelling of geohazard processes and subsurface resources. -Crystallography and optical properties.
