Joe Goode Performance Group (JGPG) promotes understanding, compassion and tolerance among people through the innovative use of dance and theater, as interpreted by the artistic vision and work of Joe Goode. Founded in 1986, JGPG is an award-winning, nationally recognized dance theater company known for the innovative collision of text, song, and deeply physical, high velocity dancing. Led by artistic director/choreographer Joe Goode, the company has performed for over 30 years annually in the San Francisco Bay Area and has toured extensively throughout the U.S., as well as in Canada, Europe, South America, the Middle East and Africa. The company is committed to opening audiences’ minds to the where and how performance can be experienced, often creating large scale performance installations in unique venues. JGPG’s performances are intended to place the audience out of the box of contemporary dance, and put a contemplative, reflective, human voice on performance. JGPG regularly collaborates with innovative artists from around the country to produce new performance works, including puppeteer Basil Twist, SF Symphony Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas, composer Michael Rouse, and composer Beth Custer. The Company is committed to exploring new intersections of dance and theater that can be shared with a broader audience, including our Resilience Project, a performance residency program designed for combat veterans. Our regular classes and workshops using Joe Goode’s methodologies are designed for people of all ages and backgrounds, including youth and people with Parkinson’s. JGPG operates out of the Joe Goode Annex, the Company’s own studio and office space located at Project Artaud in San Francisco’s Mission District. The Joe Goode Annex serves as the rehearsal space for the company, as well as a performance space for the company’s own smaller scale works, and a community resource to rent for classes, performances, and special events.
