Kaleidoscope Cottage embraces the simple yet inspiring notion that purpose found in ordinary, day to day life is vital and essential to a person's well being and sense of self. Cottage guests with dementia are encouraged and supported to do the things they like to do based on their own unique and individual preferences. This is offered in a safe, supervised environment without any expectation that anything needs to be done "right", "on time" or even done at all. There are never more than 5 "Cottagers" at any given time to ensure the best ratio for optimal well being, and interaction. Caregivers can be rest assured that their loved one is in a supportive, inclusive atmosphere, free to engage fully in spontaneous living while contributing in ways that reinforce his/her identity. "Cottagers" are welcome to stay from 1 hour up to 12 hours.anytime day or night because we know there is no "time clock" for dementia. Up to 72 hour emergency/crisis respite is also available on a individual basis. At Kaleidoscope Cottage we live the adage, "life is in the living". We believe that the narrative of dementia must change to create a new societal attitude that focuses on all the living yet to do. This is our mission in creating Kaleidoscope Cottage.
