The History of Our Water Treatment Company Advanced Water Systems was started by Gene Smelik, Sr. in January of 1986. In the mid-70s, Gene purchased a Kinetico system for his farmhouse in the Cleveland, Ohio area that is still working and in use today -- roughly 40 years later! At the time, Gene recognized the need for a quality water system for Carteret County citizens -- one that uses less salt, has very low maintenance, is completely automatic and non-electric. Hence: Kinetico! Outstanding service has always been the #1-priority with Advanced Water Systems, so in 1990, Gene's youngest son, Jesse, started working with his Dad installing Kinetico equipment and fixing other brands of water softeners while growing a steady customer base. In 1995, Gene's second youngest son, Patrick, started in the sales management position and has worked with the premium builders of Eastern North Carolina, increasing the number of Kinetico customers with the help of his vast knowledge of water treatment. Water Filtration & Purification Coverage throughout NC & VA From there, the Advanced Water Systems family has grown to a number of 32 total employees, including Gene's oldest son, Gene Jr. Advanced Water Systems' focus has been and will continue providing the absolute best product and the best possible service. In addition to the Morehead City and Newport area location, Advanced Water systems is now the exclusive Kinetico dealer and installer from the NC capital to the coast, and up to the Tidewater area in Virginia.
