Overview
The Idea: create a space with tools and training for all to access, fostering new ideas and products, and providing support for makers turned entrepreneurs. The Plan: partner with organizations that have the skills and resources to pull it off. Saint Martin’s University provided an ideal location on campus, and offered a wealth of support from their engineering, marketing and fundraising staff. The City of Lacey kickstarted funding efforts by paying the lease for 3 years, and has a vested interest in our success. The Thurston Economic Development Council goal is to help local entrepreneurs and business growth, and to that end they’ve taken Lacey MakerSpace under their wing, with full access to their personnel and expertise. The Result: the MakerSpace opens June of 2019! We’re run primarily by volunteers who donate countless hours to teach classes, mentor new makers, and keep our tools pristine.
