The Maloney-Shamie Vision Institute was established in Los Angeles in 1998 by Dr. Robert Maloney, the first surgeon in western North America to perform LASIK surgery as part of the original FDA clinical trials. A clinical professor of ophthalmology at UCLA, Doctor Maloney has trained more than 1,000 surgeons in the use of the excimer laser and has personally performed more than 65,000 vision correction surgeries. The Maloney-Shamie Vision Institute specializes in the full spectrum of vision correction procedures. Robert K. Maloney, MD, MA, a Rhodes Scholar, trained at Oxford University, Harvard University, and Johns Hopkins Hospital. Peers voted him one of America's top 10 vision correction specialists in a nationwide survey conducted by Ophthalmology Times. Neda Shamie, MD, received her medical degree from UCSF and was previously the Medical Director of the Doheny Eye Institute. She is internationally recognized as an expert in advanced corneal transplantation.
