The mission of the Montana Natural History Center is to promote and cultivate the appreciation, understanding and stewardship of nature through education. MNHC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1991 by a group of educators who had the vision to create a natural history center as a resource for schools and the public. Originally housed on the University of Montana campus, MNHC continued to grow and outgrow its rented space at Fort Missoula. In 2004, MNHC purchased its first home at 120 Hickory Street, at the edge of McCormick Park in the heart of Missoula. MNHC is located right on the river trail, where we have an exhibit center that is open to the public all day on Tuesdays-Fridays and on Saturday afternoons. Stop by and visit us! Be sure to check our website for upcoming Evening Lectures, Naturalist Field Days and Saturday Kids' Activities! MNHC offers many resources to the community: natural history programs for adults and children; educational trunks that can be rented by schools, organizations, or individuals; our Montana Master Naturalist Course, which is offered three times a year; an environmental education library; Field Notes on Montana Public Radio (aired twice a week); and the Montana Naturalist magazine, published three times a year. We have many ways to get involved, from participating in our great programs to becoming a member to volunteering. Check our website for details!
