Move4words is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company set up by Dr Buffy McClelland to provide the Move4words literacy programme to UK schools. The company provides training and resources for teachers focussing particularly on KS2 and KS3. We pride ourselves on rigorously testing the effects of our programme, and have impressive evidence for improvements in literacy performance (measured in termly school tracking data), reading age, reading and writing speed, concentration, and long-term improvements in exam performance. Move4words is a classroom programme, designed and tested by Dr Buffy McClelland, which mainly teaches children/students to pay attention to sensory input to the brain, focusing attention on body and eye movement, learning accurate rhythm, timing and body coordination. The programme methodology has been tested by teachers in classroom settings in a variety of UK schools. Improvements in reading are significant and long-lasting, and transfer into improved exam performance. The programme takes 12 weeks, for 20-30 minutes each day, and is done in the classroom. It is suitable for Year 3 to Year 8 and above. Delivery is easy for teachers to manage, with video examples of each exercise for the students to learn from and animations or illustrations to support practice of already learned movements. A clear, day-by-day and week-by-week programme is provided in DVD format. Partnerships with school clusters are encouraged. Move4words is a not-for-profit enterprise specifically set up to tackle the educational impact of social and economic disadvantage in the UK. The Community In.
