Natuurpunt is a volunteer organisation that protects for vulnerable and threatened nature in Flanders. With more than 6,000 volunteers, organized in around 160 local departments, the organisation manages more than 22,000 hectares of Flemish nature in 500 different nature reserves. The volunteers play the leading role. They take the initiative for the purchase, manage the reserves and make help making them accessible for the public. In order to give all Flemish people a chance to find rest and to experience the beauty of nature, the volunteers of Natuurpunt organize a range of activities: they create hiking trails, organize guided walks, excursions, courses, . Thanks to the work of over 120 field study groups and the online platform 'Waarnemingen.be' volunteers keep track of our Flemish nature's health. This research provides us the scientific basis for persuading the government into acting accordingly. The volunteers are supported in their work by more than 115,000 Natuurpunt members.
