Our History 1955 - O Bee Credit Union becomes chartered. Ted McGill who started the credit union, becomes our first Treasurer and Ben Hazlitt becomes our first President. 1959 - The Olympia brewery donates office space for the first O Bee Credit Union office. Also, Ted McGill becomes the first Treasurer/Manager until his retirement in 1971. 1971 - Robert E. Shogren becomes the Treasurer/Manager until he retires in 1986. 1975 - The Olympia Brewery donates a lot located at 205 Clark Place SE for a new credit union office to be built. 1976 - O Bee Credit Union builds and moves into its new building. 1986 - Bruce Cramer is hired as the credit union’s President/CEO. 1993 - The credit union Board approves the purchase of land to build a new credit union main branch. 1995 - The credit union moves into their new branch located at 3900 Cleveland Ave SE. 1999 - The credit union purchases a house on 2nd Ave for their Call Center, Card Services, and O Bee Financial Services. 2002 - The credit union converted to a statewide field of membership in April. 2004 - First branch office opens inside Dave’s Market Place in Tenino. 2009 - O Bee’s second branch opens in Lacey. 2010 - Bruce Cramer retired after 24 years as CEO. 2010 - James Collins is hired as the credit union's President/CEO. 2012 - O Bee's third branch opens in West Olympia. In 1902, it became The Olympia Brewing Company and chose the slogan "It's the Water" to promote its flagship product, Olympia Beer. Originally "O Bee" stood for Olympia Beer. In 1955, Ted McGill, a worker in the bottle house, started a credit union for Olympia Brewery employees and families. He called it "O Bee Credit Union," the name stuck and history was made.Today, anyone living or working in Washington State can join O Bee Credit Union. Through solid roots, dedication and continued hard work we continue to evolve into one of the most modern financial institutions in the country.
