We are family owned and operated, beginning with our founders Hermann and Christa Kerckhoff in 1981. The Kerckhoff’s immigrated to Canada in the late 50’s and fell in love with the river, in 1972 they started the worlds first whitewater kayak and canoe school known as Madawaska Kanu Centre. Hermann and their daughter Claudia were the first kayakers to descend the Ottawa River, discovering a prime location for rafting. Now both companies are thriving thanks to their current owners Claudia and Dirk Van Wijk. The third generation are quickly becoming more involved as well with Stefani Van Wijk as Director of MKC and Katrina heads up the marketing and design. OWL Rafting is designated as both an Ontario Tourism Signature Experience and Canadian Signature Experiences (one of only 200 in Canada). It is situated on a 25 acre outdoor adventure beachfront resort and guests can choose to tent or rent a six person cabin or a two person Cabanas. We serve healthy, hearty and delicious meals – homemade and locally sourced. The Ottawa River is over 1400 km in length and was once a major trading route. We raft a 12 km stretch of wild rapids and warm water knows as Rocher Fendu that attracts thousands of whitewater enthousiasts from around the world every year. The rafts are met by OWL Rafting’s large pontoon boat for freshly grilled BBQ lunch and a scenic cruise back to the resort. Guests relax in the evening by the fire enjoying the resort amenities such as canoes, kayaks, SUP’s, swimming, volleyball, frisbee golf, bike pump track, life size maze and more. Green Business Practices: When you choose to participate in one of OWL Rafting’s programs, you are making a Green choice. We source food from many local producers and serve all of our meals on reusable plates, cups, and cutlery, compost our food scraps or feed them to our pigs and chickens, have solar water heating for showers and composting toilets.
