The mission of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is to provide a safe, economical and effective transportation network for the people, commerce and communities of Oklahoma. The Oklahoma State Department of Transportation (ODOT) helps travelers get there Sooner rather than later. The state agency plans, constructs, operates, and maintains state and federal transportation infrastructure, which includes nearly 700 miles of interstate and about 11,500 miles of non-interstate roads, as well as 6,700 bridges. Additionally, it oversees Sooner State railways, waterways, and public transportation programs, including inter-city bus lines and taxi services. The ODOT is appropriated about 5% of the state budget. Its largest source of revenue -- nearly 70% -- comes from federal funds. About three-quarters of its annual budget is earmarked for road construction.
