OperaWorks is an entirely different brand of performance training where singing-actors learn to be entrepreneurs with the artistic skills to succeed at the top of the business, and to engage audiences in new and innovative ways. MISSION To train and empower performers to excel personally and artistically, and to develop new audiences for opera through innovative alternatives to traditional opera productions. THE COMPANY Since 1987 OperaWorks has earned a reputation for innovation and excellence. Under the leadership of Ann Baltz, founder and artistic director, the performance training programs have achieved national recognition and distinction. Hallmarks include residency programs in Los Angeles, year-round workshops and master classes taught throughout the United States. OperaWorks develops artists from the inside out: musically, dramatically, physically, mentally, and as savvy entrepreneurs. As a trailblazer, OperaWorks is the first artist program to offer classes in yoga, Feldenkreis, visualization, marketing, career planning, and social media. The curriculum also includes acting, musical improvisation, acting improvisation, Alexander Technique, and physical theater. Our exceptional faculty are professional performers and teachers who are well-versed in opera traditions, but who are willing to explore the unique capabilities and artistry of each singer. Productions are an important part of OperaWorks and include more than 30 original Pastiche operas and "Arias In Motion", improvised recitals and concerts, and annual multi-ethnic “Sing-In the Holidays” concerts designed to bring communities together to promote tolerance and peace. 2015 saw the debut of "The Discord Altar", a musically improvised opera about homelessness with text by award-winning playwright Meghan Brown. This production was the first in OperaWorks’ Arts for Social Awareness Project (ASAP), created to bring awareness to current social issues through live theater.
