There are estimated to be more than 1 billion undocumented merchants on earth, with 90%+ of them existing in emerging economies. These are small merchants that may sell produce, consumer goods like soaps and detergents, clothing, grocery items/tobacco, etc. in countries like Nigeria, Pakistan and Mexico. Most of these merchants are offline, unmapped and undiscoverable outside of their immediate surroundings. POKET is creating a crowdsourced, consensus-driven registry of undocumented places in the emerging world. Using an Android application, we are combining AI and distributed ledger technology to drive new, previously undiscoverable insights into unmapped and undocumented areas. By incentivizing users to propose and verify points of interest around them, POKET creates a curated map/registry of new places and points of interest for industries like financial services, government institutions, consumer-packaged goods companies and more! POKET generates location-specific insights by leveraging the power of community and rewarding it back in the process.
