Phi (pronounced "fee") makes clothing with an eye on the sophisticated, urban woman. Designer Susan Dell, wife of Texas computer magnate Michael Dell, founded the fashion label in 2004, enlisting designers, sewers, and pattern makers from Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, and other top companies in the business. Dell scrapped her eponymous collection in 2003 in favor of launching Phi, which has since begun retailing in Neiman Marcus, Colette in Paris, and Restir in Tokyo; the line also may be found in stores in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Korea, Russia, the Ukraine, and the US. The label's first free-standing store opened in New York in September 2004, and the company is looking to open another in Los Angeles.
