The Royal Library of Belgium is a federal scientific establishment. As a national library its role is to acquire, catalogue and store everything published in Belgium. As a scientific library it acquires (through purchases, gifts and exchanges) international publications and makes them available to readers.The Royal library organises several exhibitions a year, which allow the general public to discover exceptional and precious works. As well as printed documents (books, journals and periodicals) the library holds important collections of manuscripts, maps and plans, coins and medals, ancient printed materials, stamps and sheet music.
