Our Legacy is Growing

Seneca started as a small sawmill operation founded by Aaron Jones in 1953 in Eugene. Today, daughters Becky, Kathy and Jody continue the legacy of leadership and innovation in the wood products industry, overseeing a family of companies consisting of: Timberlands – we have about 167,000 acres that we manage sustainably. We have 92% more timber on that land than we had 25 years ago. In 2019 we planted our 40 millionth tree. If those seedlings were laid end-to-end, they would cross America 5 ½ times. Sawmills – some of the most innovative in the country. Biomass plant – we take the scraps from our milling process, as well as some of the slash that would otherwise have been left on a landing after a harvest, and we use it to fuel our biomass plant that creates enough green sustainable energy to power 13,000 homes. It is the cleanest running biomass plant in America. The byproduct from the biomass plant is ash, and since all of the fuel going into the plant is organic, the ash is certified organic, and we market it to farmers here in the Willamette Valley to get tilled back into the soil annually in August and September. Sustainability is a core value of our multi-generational family business and it is woven throughout all of the Seneca companies. We plan for generations. Generations of trees and generations of family. We employ about 475 people. We consider them all part of our Seneca Family. Seneca Corporation was founded in 1990. The company's line of business includes designing, developing, and producing prepackaged computer software. Studio, one, and two bedroom apartments The philosopher Seneca may have searched for the truth in ancient Rome, but Seneca Resources searches for a more tangible commodity -- oil and gas -- in modern day America. The company explores for, develops, and produces natural gas and oil primarily in the Appalachian region (where it is focusing of developing its lucrative Marcellus Shale assets), as well as the Southwest and California. Seneca Resources is a subsidiary of multi-faceted energy company National Fuel Gas. In 2010 the company reported proved reserves of 428.4 billion cu. ft. of natural gas and 45.2 million barrels of oil.
