We were founded as CampusBookRentals in the Summer of 2007 by a college student who couldn’t make sense of textbook prices, and the inefficiencies that seemed to be driving them up. He proposed that renting textbooks might be part of the answer. The concept took off, creating one of the fastest growing companies in America and forever changing the rules of the ten billion dollar higher education content industry. Since then, we have adopted the name Sidewalk to more accurately portray why we exist. The term Sidewalk embodies our passionate belief in independent and autonomous local retail. Independent college stores, when using the right technology, can bring value to students that huge corporate structures simply cannot because they lack the creativity and insight required to tap into the magic of local. We’re made up of a fresh and energetic staff of over 100 individuals who are doing this for the right reasons. We love what we do.
