The Saudi culture has vast and rich Heritage, but through time a large part of this Heritage disappeared. However, it has kept its authenticity regardless of time. One of the inherited crafts is the weaving of palm fiber and “sadu” by women in different parts of the kingdom, where palm groves flourish and tribes live. Sleysla was created to link past crafts with present usage, to keep them alive. Al-Faisalya established SLEYSLA in order to improve the economic conditions of young Saudi women through training on embroidery to create new concepts based on traditional styles. The aim is to solve the issues of poverty, unemployment and encourage the purchase of local products. The project also opens markets for women weavers of palm fibre around the Kingdom.
