Located in the metropolis of Valdosta, Georgia, SGMC serves a multi-county area in South Georgia and North Florida. Lanier Health Services, Inc. operates as a non profit organization. The Organization offers physical, speech, and occupational therapy, as well as laboratory, radiology, and rehabilitation services. Lanier Health Services serves patients in the State of Georgia. South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) serves southern Georgia and northern Florida. The regional hospital has 335 beds and offers a range of services focusing on such specialties as diabetes management, hospice care, pulmonary care, and women's health. SGMC's Pearlman Comprehensive Cancer Center is devoted to a holistic approach to cancer care while its Greenleaf hospital provides inpatient and outpatient psychiatric and substance abuse treatment. The medical center also operates a specialized wound healing center and an urgent care facility The public hospital was founded as Pineview General Hospital in 1955. Its governing board is appointed by the local city council and county commissioners.
