Taco Del Mar Franchising operates a chain of more than 200 Fresh-Mex restaurants known for their Baja-themed interiors, complete with tropical music and surfboard tabletops. The company-owned and franchised quick-casual eateries specialize in tacos and burritos made with fresh beef, chicken, fish, and veggie fillings. The chain has locations in about 20 states, mostly in Washington and Oregon, as well as in the western provinces of Canada. James Schmidt and his brother John opened the first Taco Del Mar in 1992. The company voluntarily filed for bankruptcy protection in early 2010 and emerged several months later.
