In 2014 thyssenkrupp established Global Shared Services (GSS), a service unit that combines and standardizes administrative functions worldwide in Finance & Accounting (FI), Human Resources (HR), Information Technology (IT) and Real Estate Management (RE) and organizes them efficiently. The aim of GSS is to combine specific functions, tasks and duties – previously performed by different units in different areas of the company using different methods – at one or more central units and standardize them. The GSS organization comprises six service centers around the world in Essen and Bochum (both Germany), Gdansk (Poland), Porto Alegre (Brazil), Thane (India), and a center in China that will open for business in late 2016. All centers operate as legally independent companies or are attached to a local thyssenkrupp management unit. The Bochum site is focused on German HR processes. The site in Poland is mainly involved in optimizing and providing F&A processes. The regional centers in Brazil and India provide support to the Group companies in South America and India respectively. In the coming years the GSS organization will be gradually expanded, and in the medium term will employ more than 2,500 people.
