A wrist watch created to celebrate the work of a Winchester hero, William Walker. Also known as 'Diver Bill', William Walker was quite a remarkable man. At the age of 18 he started training to be a diver in Portsmouth Dockyard. By 1906 he was one of the most experienced Dockyard Divers and was selected to do a very unusual diving job – under the walls of Winchester Cathedral. Part of the Cathedral was collapsing and conventional engineering efforts failed to shore up the foundations because of the water ingress. William Walker was sent to the rescue. For 6 years he worked alone under the walls of the cathedral working in total darkness to support the foundations of the cathedral, a feat so remarkable that King George V appointed him MVO (Member of the Royal Victorian Order). This watch is a celebration of William Walker's achievements, and takes its unique design cues from the style, colour, and materials of his diving helmet, and suit. With a prominent polished brass bezel, and polished copper case, this watch will emit beautiful colours, and alter in different lights, with a real presence on the wrist.
