The Topeka Pilots ice hockey team is a member of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), the only Tier II junior hockey league in the United States. The Pilots play 28 regular season home games from September to March at the Stormont Vail Events Center in Topeka, Kansas. Previously known as the Topeka RoadRunners, the franchise was purchased by Loretto Sports Ventures on April 16, 2018 by owner Lamar Hunt, Jr. On June 5, 2018 the team rebranded to the Pilots to raise awareness and bring attention to the vast history of aviation not only in Topeka, but across the state of Kansas. The 2019-20 season marks the 44th season of NAHL competition. The league games, showcases and playoffs are consistently scouted by NHL teams, NHL Central Scouting and many college programs from around the country. Each NAHL team is allowed a 23 man roster, including four imports, of young men aged 16-20 years old. For the players this elite league is their opportunity to develop mentally and physically on the ice before following their childhood dream of college, or even NHL, hockey. With such a dedicated hockey fan base in Topeka, the Pilots are excited to build on the foundation the previous teams have left behind for their inaugural season.
