Most people think of the Utah Highway Patrol when then think of DPS, and while we are proud of our troopers, we encompass so much more, including: Driver License Division, Crime Lab, Bureau of Criminal Identification, State Bureau of Investigations, State Fire Marshal, Emergency Management, Communications, Highway Safety, POST, Statewide Information and Analysis Center, the Aero Bureau and the Dive Team. Utah Department of Public Safety does not want you to worry out on the road. The agency focuses on creating a safe environment for people driving in the state through a variety of programs in areas such as public information, education and training, and traffic enforcement. Its Driver License Division also offers license renewal, driver training, DUI information, and other related services. The agency's Bureau of Criminal Indentification provides firearms background checks, private investigator licenses, and fingerprint and photo services. Through is Homeland Security unit, the agency offers emergency preparedness support and assistance. The department has an annual budget of about $172 million.
