The Rossendale Valley is a place with its own unique character and a rich history and heritage. A journey through the valley reveals that Rossendale is littered with historic buildings that once played important roles in our communities and people’s lives. Every day we see these mills, factories, houses, pubs and clubs, cinemas, shops, bingo halls and churches forming the backdrop to our lives. Many that were once a hive of activity are now silent, empty, run down or even derelict. These heritage buildings are a part of our valley’s history that has been cast aside, a part of our shared past that has been abandoned because they are no longer useful for their original purpose. Valley Heritage is a charitable organisation that wants to share and celebrate this rich heritage and bring our decaying historic buildings back to life. We aim to do this by running heritage related events and activities, whilst also restoring and finding new uses for some of our historic buildings. We want to ensure that places that played such a vital role in our history are not lost and forgotten, but instead are once again filled with people. Our hope is to ensure that the valley’s history plays a part in our present and our shared heritage is there for future generations to enjoy.
