Enquiries can be made and more information found at http://villaponti.co THE STORY OF VILLA PONTI Two Australian couples spent four years combing Italy for the perfect frescoed villa. They wanted an architectural style impossible to find in their young country. Gio Ponti, Italian architectural icon and founder/editor of the world’s most famous architectural magazine, Domus, was inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright who he featured in his publication. Ponti was a family friend of the Fossati family who built the three-story holiday villa on their beloved Lake Como in northern Italy. Ponti collaborated with Domus artistic director Cesare Casati, and contributor Enzo Hybsch on original drawings of what the current owners now call Cloud House Villa Ponti. This because the 11 large windows in the curved salon are on the same level as clouds floating down the valley, between the mountains opposite and village of Civenna, seven kilometres above Bellagio. Panoramic 180° lake views are a feature of the house from rooms and balconies of all four villa levels, including a rooftop terrace. Signore Fossati wanted a nautical feel, close to Ponti’s heart since he and Casati had together designed transatlantic ship interiors, so the Domus architects incorporated ship funnels, lights and wood panelling and flooring into the design of a bulwark yet majestic floating mirage. Plans are underway for a moon viewing spa, pool, infrared sauna and dining deck in 2019.
