Why Virginia Academy? Much thought and consideration went into choosing the name "Virginia Academy." We want to embrace the historical significance and intrinsic values for which Virginia is known. We are interested in producing students who are leaders of the next generation. By embracing Virginian values, we reinforce what is being taught in the home and at school. So, when you tell people that we are the Virginia Academy Patriots, do it with pride! A COMMITMENT TO FAITH - Make no mistake, Virginia was settled by Christians who were intentional about their future. They were not aimless seekers of an unknown land; they strongly believed that God had directed them to settle here. The first thing they did was to build churches dedicated to the worship of Almighty God. In the 1800's, Virginia became ground zero for John and Charles Wesley, founders of the Methodist Church. The Christian heritage of Virginia is unmistakable. A COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION - Starting with the founding of The College of William and Mary in 1693 AD, Virginia has had a strong commitment to education. Today our state is the home of scores of leading universities and colleges. George Washington University, NOVA and Shenandoah University have campuses nearby. A COMMITMENT TO THE WORK ETHIC - All of us who have studied, know the story of Captain John Smith, the leader of the first Virginians who settled in Jamestown. Many of the more wealthy members of the community were not carrying their weight, so, Captain Smith made this famous edict, "If you won’t work, you won’t eat." Virginians are industrious people with a strong work ethic. For this reason Loudoun County is home to many of America's top companies.
