Where you start matters. Virginia Chance School is an Independent school serving ages 2 through 5th grade and provides the premier progressive education program in Louisville. Inside our bright, busy classrooms and outside in our magical wooded setting, students learn through hands-on discovery. Our multi-year, integrated program spans the critical years of a child’s development. Our progressive approach to education fosters creativity, problem-solving, skill-building and a lifetime love of learning. Accreditation: The school is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), a membership organization of 230 independent schools from 13 states in the Midwest. Program Foundation: The hallmark of a Chance education is the way in which educators thoughtfully and deliberately develop the whole child through the tenants of Progressive Education. The curricular foundation is a blend of the school’s philosophy with age-appropriate milestones and Common Core Standards along with guidelines from the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), National Academy of Early Childhood Programs (NAECP), the Gesell Institute, and academic best practices. Campus & Buildings: The campus is a wooded wonderland for learning. Its 26-acres are surrounded by woods and fields, and the school sits on a bluff overlooking the Ohio River. The campus features a Learning Greenhouse, outdoor playgrounds, gardens, a soccer field and a running course. Constructed in 1914, the two-story main building has undergone extensive renovation that is sensitive to the history of the building as the former Rogers Clark Ballard School. The building features the Funroom (gymnasium), Treehouse and Lodge classrooms, art and music rooms, library and technology lab, and an abundance of picturesque classroom windows. Elementary classrooms are fully equipped with computers and Smart Boards with document cameras.
