Visit Vallejo, (formerly the Vallejo Convention & Visitors Bureau) was formed in 1987 under the auspices of the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce and in conjunction with the opening of Marine World-Africa USA (now Six Flags Discovery Kingdom). In 1990, Visit Vallejo separated from the Vallejo Chamber of Commerce to become its own organization and moved to the Vallejo Ferry Terminal. In addition to the promotion of tourism in Vallejo, Visit Vallejo has also operated the Visitors (Tourist) Information Center in the Vallejo Ferry Terminal assisting visitors traveling by ferry boat to and from San Francisco as well as assisting tourists arriving by ground transportation as directed by signage along Interstate 80 and 780 and along major streets in Vallejo. Visit Vallejo’s principal funding comes from the Vallejo Tourism Business Improvement District (VTBID) ordinance established in January of 2004 and revised in November, 2007. This ordinance helps generate critical dollars needed to promote and market Vallejo and thus increase hotel occupancy at our hotels and thus add to the overall economy in Vallejo. Tourism is Vallejo's #2 industry providing more than 4800 jobs with an annual payroll of more than $72.2 million. It enhances business opportunities, creates more jobs, and increases tax revenues. Tourism doesn't just happen! Due to the nature of the tour and travel business, group leaders and tour & travel agents book most groups two to five years in advance. Dividends for Visit Vallejo, therefore, may take as many years to materialize. It is also the Visit Vallejo’s job to encourage these tourists to visit and shop in our area; and encourage groups to hold meetings, conferences, and reunions in our city.
