WIRES has a network of over two thousand rescuers and wildlife rehabilitators and around 400 supporting veterinary practices. These volunteers help almost 50,000 sick, injured, orphaned or displaced native animals every year. We rescue all native animals - whether it is a duck stranded on a busy city railway station, a black necked stork blown way off course from another State, a flying fox caught in netting on a fruit tree, a stranded turtle on a beach, a python trapped under the bonnet of a car or a rare glider injured by barbed wire. Many animals require intensive care and treatment over many months. Some just need a place to rest and recover before they are returned to the wild. It takes a special person to become a WIRES volunteer. Young birds often need feeding every half hour. Some animals require feeding and checking through the night and some animals don’t make it, no matter how much expert care and attention they receive. • WIRES handles over 150,000 wildlife calls a year • WIRES has 27 branches across the State • WIRES deals with over 50,000 animals a year To help wildlife, make a donation at www.wires.org.au or by calling 1300 094 737.
