Woolamai Beach SLSC provides essential surf lifesaving services to the Phillip Island and Bass Coast community. In Australia's second-most tourism-dependent region, Woolamai Beach SLSC provides patrolled surf beaches to significantly support the 40% of Phillip Island's economy and employment reliant on tourism. Powered by volunteers since 1959, the club delivers: Responsive surf rescue for Phillip Island and surrounding area, approximately 100 kilometres of coastline; the largest single surf life saving precinct in Australia. Scheduled volunteer patrols at Woolamai Beach and Smiths Beach on weekends during summer. Host of Victoria's largest professional lifeguard service patrolling Woolamai Beach, Smiths Beach, and Cowes Beach seven days a week during summer. Professional lifeguards are selected from patrolling volunteers. Award-winning Nippers program at Woolamai Waters each summer. Life Saving Victoria Nippers Volunteer of the Year Award 2015/16 was awarded to Jason Close, Woolamai Beach Nippers Director. The infamous XXXII San Remo Channel Challenge, Saturday 11 February 2017, when hundreds of Victoria's best biathletes hope to beat the tide to swim the channel and run back across the bridge.
